N’s recent non-fiction book report on the pilgrims, retaught me the basis of genesis of Thanksgiving.  From what I can see it was simple: gratitude for the sustenance that bounty provided through the long winters months, and appreciation for the help received. The feast was held in the center of the colony – and lasted for days. Gametime included musket competitions and races.  Thanksgiving wasn’t a national holiday until President Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day during the Civil War on October 3, 1863.

So the count down is on… 4 days until our modern-day Thanksgiving celebration.  Great food, loved ones, football, parades.  Even with these major changes from the original celebration, I love this holiday because of it affords us a moment to pause and be appreciative for what matters most to us all.  For me – its my family & friends, their health & good well being.  And some apple pie.
